Haxtun Hospital District Girls Night Out 2017

"Reaching For The Stars"

The Fourth Annual HHD Girls Night Out Event was held Feb. 23, 2017 at the Haxtun Community Center. The Event featured the traditional format linking together exceptional health education and special entertainment. In spite of several conflicts including inclement weather, many amazing women came out to support the Event and it was a delightful evening.

The exceptional health education was presented by Dr. Colby Jolley and Dr. Breck McCarty. They covered the topics of Anxiety/Depression and Menopause/Hormone Replacement Therapy respectively. Great handouts were provided by the physicians for attendees creating an additional educational opportunity to learn more about these critical topics.

In special partnership with the Haxtun Schools, entertainment featured a talent show which included both student and adult contestants. Mr. Cory Cordie, Music Teacher at Haxtun Schools facilitated auditions, dress rehearsal and student performances. He was assisted by Rachelle Davis and Sara Martinez. Sara is also the Art Teacher at Haxtun Schools and together with her students created some fun table decorations for the evening. Unfortunately, conflicts prevented some of the performers who made it through the live auditions from actually performing but the entertainment remained a charming success.

The top three performances were determined via ballots cast by those in attendance. The top three Stars in no specific order; Addison Oliver/Vocal, Ryan Davis/Magic, and Brooklyn Plumb/Vocal. Outstanding performances were also given by Linda Fuesz and Barb Schanhals/Violin&Piano duet, and Barb Schanhals/Piano. Barb closed the entertainment portion of the evening by asking everyone to stand and sing, "God Bless America". This outstanding patriotic song was beautifully and passionately performed in tribute to all the men and women currently serving our country and all those who have served our country in the past. Each performer received special recognition and gifts from HHD.

The evening closed with a drawing for door prizes which focused on the music theme with new and vintage music boxes. Raffle tickets were utilized to give attendees an opportunity to win their favorite box. Several women who won door prizes shared that the music boxes brought back special memories of their childhood and it was an honor to share this great joy with them. There were also drawings for the table centerpieces.
