Assist in maintaining the physical plant, grounds, and environmental functions of all hospital properties, vehicles, and equipment.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in maintenance and plant operations preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, code books, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Monitors, inspects, and ensures the safe and efficient function and operation of all buildings, equipment, systems and grounds, in a proactive manner.
  • Inspects and tests machinery and equipment in accordance with preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Checks gauges visually on daily basis for accurate machine operation and logs data appropriately.
  • Performs safety tests on electrical lighting, emergency generators, alarm systems, communication systems, medical equipment and HVAC system and takes appropriate action for safe operation.
  • Uses the lockout / tagout process.
  • Utilizes proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assists with set-up/take down of all items/equipment pertaining to special events, e.g., draperies, dividers and lighting.
  • Follows all preventive maintenance schedules and prioritize repair maintenance work to minimize disruption of hospital operations.


  1. Performs ground maintenance in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintains all facility grounds, including parking lots.
  • Performs ground maintenance activities such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse.
  • Assists in the inspection and service of equipment to maintain grounds.
  • Operates and maintains lawn care equipment safely.
  • Takes care of lawn and outdoor plants appropriately.
  • Works with outside vendors and contractors to ensure a successful project.
  • Ensures safe access to the hospital and facility grounds.
  • Performs snow removal as needed.
  1. Assists with painting, light carpentry and masonry work as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with required codes when completing projects as assigned.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Base Wage: $14.28/hourly (additional salary commensurate with education and experience)
