REGISTERED NURSE – PART TIME

Provides general nursing care to patients throughout facilities, including Acute Care Unit, Extended Care Unit, Emergency Department and clinic.

Qualifications

  • BSN from four-year college or university or ADN program with minimum of one (1) year related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current Colorado RN License
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Must possess required certifications or be able to obtain within 90 days

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Utilizes the nursing process, for the performance of patient care, to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes.
  • Performs complete admission assessment.
  • Gives medications: oral, rectal, parental and sub-lingual according to hospital policy.
  • Performs patient rounding for all patient assignments.
  • Performs patient/family teaching for assessed knowledge deficits.
  • Evaluates patient progress toward desired outcomes prior to discharge.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability in the delivery of patient care in a competent, professional and compassionate manner.
  1. Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patient’s presenting problems/needs.
  • Evaluates the patient’s response to and effectiveness of interventions.
  • Integrates appropriate standards of care into the patient’s plan of care based on the diagnosis and age-specific needs.
  • Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions.
  • Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care.
  • Includes family or significant others in the care of the patient as appropriate.
  • Documents patient care and related information according to policy and procedure.
  • Facilitates patient’s transition to the next level of care.
  • Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team member’s practices through timely communication.
  • Serves as a role model to colleagues, students and other care providers.
  1. Records pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to identify nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes/goals.
  • Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs according to their needs, abilities, preferences and readiness to learn.
  • Evaluates the patient’s response to and effectiveness of interventions.
  • Evaluates patient’s progress toward established outcomes.
  1. Performs comprehensive nursing assessments in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Conducts full body system analysis.
  • Performs and completed the established steps of the initial admissions process.
  • Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities and takes appropriate action.
  • Administers and performs nursing assessment in accordance with the applicable patient type which may include; Medical, Surgical, Obstetrical, Newborn, Pediatric and/or Telemetry/Cardiac patients.
  1. Collaborates with other healthcare providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
  • Promotes team concept through effective communication regarding patient condition, patient care plan and patient satisfaction with appropriate individuals that are involved in the patient’s care.
  • Works effectively with ancillary areas as part of the team approach to patient care.
  • Directs patient support team members effectively and appropriately.
  • Demonstrates initiative and flexibility in the provision of patient care.
  • Informs and involves manager regarding patient care issues in a timely and appropriately manner.
  • Assists in making patient assignments, coordinating admissions, and meeting staffing needs for unit.
  • Collaborates with Social Services and Utilization Management.
  • Completes patient and family education throughout the patient’s stay and at discharge.
  1. Performs emergency treatment as required.
  • Initiates or assists in patient care in an effective and responsive manner as each situation requires.
  • Triages each emergency situation appropriately and involves other resources as appropriate.
  • Administers and performs emergent care in accordance with the applicable patient population type which may range from newborn to geriatrics.
  • Follows standards of BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS and NRP interventions as needed.
  • Follows emergency policies, procedures and protocols in an effective manner.
  1. Performs and maintains documentation.
  • Documents accurate and ongoing assessments of patient status that reflect nursing interventions, patient responses, patient teaching and status of outcomes at discharge.
  • Maintains documentation of performance measures and quality improvement efforts.
  • Completes shift end check prior to leaving duty.
  1. Communicates effectively.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, nursing plan of care, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.
  • Follows approved shift report format when communicating patient information.
  • Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and takes appropriate action. Appropriately reports condition changes to medical provider.
  1. Promotes and ensures patient safety in performance of all responsibilities.
  • Administers medications, treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to health care provider orders and nursing policy, including appropriate performance of standard precautions, using two patient identifiers and performing patient risk assessments every shift.
  • Demonstrates proficient technical/clinical skills and operational knowledge of equipment on unit.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
  • Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), proper use of hand washing and gloves.
  • Follows proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
