Haxtun Health Hosts Successful Third Annual Health Fair

Haxtun Health Hosts Successful Third Annual Health Fair

Haxtun Health hosted their third annual Health Fair on Saturday, June 1st, 2024. Each year the Health Fair takes place at the Haxtun Community Center on the first Saturday of June. The goal is to offer the community lab draw packages at an affordable rate. They are firm believers that healthcare should be available to all and not a luxury. “I have spoken with several people who attended the Health Fair that have expressed their gratitude,” stated Sara Huss, Marketing and Communication Coordinator at Haxtun Health. “Patient care is what drives us here at Haxtun Health. They are why we do what we do. We know what this means to the community and that is why we do it.”

Screenings

In addition to offering the lab draw panels at a discounted rate, Haxtun Health also offers many free screenings. This year that list included one-on-one balance screenings with Physical Therapy, pulse ox and blood pressure readings, Renpho smart scale results, and skin checks. In conjunction with Haxtun Health’s screenings, Stephanie Starkebaum from Phillips County CSU Extension Office conducted InBody scans for visitors. The Haxtun Hospital Foundation continued the tradition of covering the cost of the InBody Scans.

“We are thrilled with the turn out this year,” Huss said. “We served people ranging from Sterling to Proctor to Holyoke and all the way down to Wray.” The hospital saw a 30% increase in lab draws this year. “We fully expect to see that number increase again next year”, Huss stated.

Dr. Dana Morgan, a new Haxtun Health primary care physician, made her debut at the Fair. She aided with the skin check station, examining several visitors’ spots they were concerned about. Dr. Dana has more than 30 years of experience and will begin seeing patients at Haxtun Health in June.

Results

All lab draw results were delivered to the patient portal no later than 6:30pm on the day of the Health Fair. Results were also mailed out the following week.

Community Help

Haxtun Health didn’t act alone. The Haxtun Lion’s Club came in to assist the hospital staff, erecting the partitions throughout the community center as well as stepping into non-clinical roles during the morning of the fair as support. “We are so grateful for the continued support of the Lions. They are always the first to jump in and ask how they can help,” Huss commented.

Additionally, Little Sprouts Learning Center had a presence at the fair. The LSLC staff members sold out of breakfast burritos, bringing in extra revenue for the childcare center.

What’s next?

Since wrapping up the Health Fair, the Haxtun Health team has been busy welcoming the Keller brothers into the Specialty line-up as well as Dr. Ehrin Armstrong, specialist in Cardiology, Peripheral Vascular health, and wound care. As formerly mentioned, they are also expanding the provider team with the onboarding of Dr. Dana Morgan. The Rehabilitation department is ramping up summer availability with a full staff.  Wendy Evans, Director of Health and Wellness is working to launch some summer community classes.  More info to come on the summer Health and Wellness lineup.

During the months of June, July, and August with each Well Child Check that is performed at the clinic, Haxtun Health is making a donation to the students’ classroom. Well Child Checks, or Annual wellness checks, are routine health checkups with a provider. These visits help keep your child up to date on vaccines they need for school and serve as a way for you to ensure your child is happy, healthy, and thriving. It also helps to identify challenges, such as trouble with eyesight, weight, or asthma, and helps kids do well in all aspects of life. These exams are typically covered by insurance. Appointments are available in Haxtun and Fleming. You can schedule an appointment by calling the clinic at 970-774-6187.

Haxtun Health is also hosting several Sports Physicals Clinics throughout the summer months. CHSAA requires all High School Athletes to complete a sports physical before participating in high school sports. Sports Physicals are basic exams that students simply pass or fail. Sports Physicals are offered at $25 Cash Pay. These exams are not covered by insurance. For a full list of Sports Physicals dates, check out their website at haxtunhealth.com, their Facebook page, or give them a call at 970-774-6187.
