Haxtun Hospital Introduces New Nurse Practitioner Jessica Bullard to Provider Team

Haxtun, CO – 7/31/2020 Jessica Bullard knew she wanted to be a nurse at the age of 14.

Encouraged by her parents to find employment, she landed her first job at a nursing home in Yuma, and that’s where her lifelong career in healthcare began. She immediately fell in love with the residents and found herself wanting to do whatever she could to brighten their days. She was drawn to the feeling of helping others in need, and from that day forward, it was her mission to one day become a nurse.

Mission accomplished — in fact, exceeded.

Still passionate about helping those in her community live healthier lives, Bullard recently swapped out the letters behind her name from RN to FNP and will start her new role as a nurse practitioner at the Haxtun Family Medicine Center in August. Bullard’s goal in healthcare is to meet patients where they’re at to figure out a treatment that makes the most sense for them.

“My goal is to build a solid relationship with my patients and focus their care on what they see as their optimum level of health,” she said. “I’m excited to take a new approach to healthcare and treat patients at a different level than I have in the past.”

Medical Background

Bullard has been at Haxtun Hospital since 2006, working several different roles and continually furthering her education to get where she is now. Cutting her teeth as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), Bullard became a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in 2009. In 2014, she attained her associate degree in nursing from Morgan Community College, beginning her next chapter as a registered nurse (RN) with the hospital.

Dedicated to one day becoming a family nurse practitioner (FNP), she went back to school again, this time attending Walden University, and she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2018. Less than two years later, Bullard accomplished what she had set out to do and got her master’s degree in nursing in February and board certification in March.

Most recently, Bullard provided care in both the inpatient and emergency room settings. Now, she will continue to provide high-quality healthcare to every patient alongside other providers in the Haxtun and Fleming Clinics.

“I want to continue to serve people and stay in the career that I love,” she said. “I can make a difference for people in their time of need, when they’re weakest, sickest or when they need the most help.”

A Heart for Haxtun

A native of Otis Colorado, Bullard is a 2003 Otis High School graduate. She then moved on to attend Northeastern Junior College for her initial schooling, where she played competitive volleyball and graduated in 2005 with her associate degree in pre-nursing. She moved to Greeley to attend the University of Northern Colorado for a year before deciding city life wasn’t for her, and then decided to settle down in Haxtun in 2006.

She wanted to be closer to family, specifically her grandparents, and now she has a family of her own who get to call Haxtun their home. Bullard married her husband, Tom, in 2009, and the couple loves spending time with their three children: Jayleigh, 13, Taivyn, 10, and Cooper, 8. Bullard is the daughter of Paul and Joyce Davis of Otis, and granddaughter to Paul and Joy Livingston of Otis and Janet Davis of Haxtun.

Bullard hopes to offer families in the community like her own local, ongoing care they can trust.
