Haxtun Health Offers Safe Haven for Recovery and Mental Health Support

Access to mental health and addiction recovery services can be challenging in rural communities, where resources are limited and stigma often prevents people from seeking help. Haxtun Health is working to change that by creating a safe, welcoming environment for individuals in need of support. Through new programs and community partnerships, the hospital is making recovery more accessible for residents in Northeastern Colorado.

In a recent radio interview, Sonya Batty of Haxtun Health shared her personal journey and the mission behind these efforts. “I wanted to make Haxtun Health a safe place,” Sonya said, reflecting on her own recovery journey, celebrating one year of sobriety as of November 4. “Addiction is a disease, and it often goes hand in hand with mental health. People shouldn’t have to fear shame or judgment when seeking help.”

Haxtun Health now offers withdrawal management services and accepts patients struggling with addiction and mental health concerns. The team is equipped to provide care and connect individuals with additional resources to support their full recovery journey.

Community Wellbeing Meeting

Recognizing the lack of local recovery meetings in Northeastern Colorado, Sonya and her team have partnered with Milestone Community Wellness to host Community Wellbeing Meetings every Thursday night from 6 to 7 p.m. at the old PT building in Haxtun. These meetings are open to anyone, no registration required, completely confidential, and free of charge.

“It’s more like a family group,” Sonya explained. “Sometimes the meetings go longer, and that’s okay. We’re here for each other.”

The initiative aims to bridge the gap for residents in Haxtun, Holyoke, and surrounding areas who previously had to travel to Sterling for support. The meetings offer a welcoming space for those dealing with substance abuse, mental health issues, or simply seeking connection.
Sonya emphasized, “If you’re struggling, come here. Our arms are wide open.”
